EXPO 2025 OSAKA – SPAIN PAVILION

WORK: Audiovisual Creative Direction and Lighting Design for the Spanish Pavilion at the 2025 Osaka World Expo
CLIENT: AC/ E Acción Cultural Española
DATE: 2025

ABOUT: The design of the Spanish Pavilion is based on the Kuroshio Current. It highlights how Spain and Japan have been connected for centuries by this powerful invisible current.

The immersive visitor experience is nourished by the two major elements that make up the building, the sun and the ocean, which, apparently calm on its façade, presents a reflected sun, a sunrise or a sunset, the two parts of this sun symbolizing Spain and Japan (East and West) united in the same instant. This contact between the sun and the ocean and this apparent tranquility conceal a complex system of underwater currents that are the main regulating force behind the planet’s balance and which constitute the content of the exhibition.

The overall experience, from the moment the visitor enters the façade until they reach the exit, is divided into three stages:

The Plaza del Sol: the waiting area represents the sun reflected in the water, a bright and warm space, enlivened by audiovisuals and live shows.

Connecting currents: a dark space in which we perceive a series of audiovisual currents that transport us to the depths of the sea, where we will discover content related to the blue economy and Spain’s relationship with the sea.

Greetings from Spain. From postcard to post: our journey ends by taking us to Spain, with an immersive audiovisual space of a festive and colorful nature, showcasing our customs, landscapes, and gastronomy.
